European bison safari



European bisons (also called the wisent)  is the largest herbivore in Europe and one of the few surviving megafauna species.  The last wild bison in Europe died in Poland in 1919. Thanks to the work of many organisations, zoos and breeding centres, scientists and individuals, the bison is rescued from extinction. The species only survived thanks to 54 animals that were kept in different zoos, originating from only 12 founder animals. In 1954 the first bison were released back into the wild in the Białowieża forest in Poland. Then scientists bring them to Westernpomerania region closby Oder Delta where now more then 200 individuals live in the wild.

You will stay eye to eye with a herd of free-living European bison  without any fance. The best opportunity for making photos even from 10 m from free animals. Guiding by a many years  experienced scientist.    

Day 1 

Arrival and transfer to accommodation in the villages located in the Oder Delta where you will meet your English speaking guide. You will hear a brief presentation about wildlife in the Oder Delta by your experienced guide. After dinner you will receive and discuss programme of the following days and if possible go for a short walk around to feel the atmospher of the region and meet wildlife and birdlife living here.

Day 2 

After early breakfast you will be transfer to the starting point of the European bison safari (duration 1,5 hour);  You will drive by 4×4 car and looking for the bisons; it will be remarkable opportunity for making picture or video of European bison in the wild  – 3-4 hours safari of the bison area.  After coming back dinner and overnight stay at the scheduled place. The Safaris also available different options of the trips time or day.  

Day 3 

Favourable conditions created large population of red and roe deer in Oder Delta. After the early breakfast you will wear a special camouflage system and looking for the best place for making photos of the huge bull, abundant herd of red deer  or jumping roe deer or other wildlife  when you will be lucky even from 5 m distance – 2 hours walking safari.

Return to the airport (Berlin or Szczecin – Goleniów) or to the bus/train station possible stops to observe  interesting landscapes and watching mammals and birds on your own.


  • It is possible to organize a pickup service from Berlin or Szczecin (Goleniów) Airport at additional cost.
  • Depending on availability the accommodation will be arranged in rural family guesthouse, small hotel or pension in single or double room.
